CEO IAN MATHER UPDATE ON RETURN OF FANS

16 September 2020

Cambridge United’s CEO Ian Mather has re-iterated the huge importance on football supporters returning to fixtures safely, as soon as possible.

Last week, the U’s hosted the first successful and covid-safe pilot event at a competitive fixture at the Abbey Stadium, and as result have opened the door for further pilot events to take place across the country at ten EFL games.

Due to current government restrictions, the pilot events only allow for 1,000 supporters to attend, and Mather explains for the future financial stability of football clubs across League One and Two, this capacity has to be increased. The alternative, according to Mather, is already leading to catastrophic consequences across the EFL.

The U’s CEO confirmed that Cambridge United would continue to do everything in its power to lead the way on the safe return of supporters, and delivered a message of reassurance to United fans that the Club is striving to have fans back as soon as possible.
