CUCT AND WINTERCOMFORT LAUNCH BALLS TO HOMELESSNESS CAMPAIGN - STADIUM SLEEPOUT 2020

16 October 2019

Wintercomfort and Cambridge United Community Trust launch their “Balls to homelessness” Campaign to mark World Homelessness Day.

Wintercomfort and Cambridge United Community Trust has partnered together to run the Balls to Homelessness fundraising campaign culminating in a Sleepout event held at Abbey Football Stadium on Friday 7th February 2020.

Both organsiations are calling on the local community, community groups and local businesses to sign up to participate in the Sleepout. All sleepers are expected to raise a minimum of £100 and whilst it might be the most comfortable night’s sleep participants have ever had, it may be one of their most important.

All the money raised will be split between Wintercomfort’s work with the homeless community in Cambridge and Cambridge United Community Trust’s hugely valuable work with disadvantaged Children and Young People across Cambridgeshire.

Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, said: “It’s my absolute pleasure to be involved with the Balls to Homelessness Campaign, I have seen the work of Wintercomfort and Cambridge United Community Trust first hand and they are both excellent charities making a real difference in the Cambridge Community.”

Sam Gomarsall, Community Trust Manager at Cambridge United Community Trust said: “We’re excited to be hosting the third annual Sleepout and to be raising money for Wintercomfort, a charity whom we know well, alongside our own preventative programmes. The last two Sleepouts have been fantastic (if cold!) occasions with over 80 people raising over £37,000 and we’re looking forward to this season’s event.

"The money raised will be invaluable in allowing us to continue engaging with and inspiring young people from disadvantaged areas of the city to achieve their potential and improve their wellbeing.”

Simon Pickering, Wintercomfort’s Fundraising Manager, said: “We are really pleased to be partnering with Cambridge United Community Trust on the Balls to Homelessness Campaign, we hope to see as many people as possible undertaking the opportunity to support both organisations on 7th February.

Wintercomfort continues to be a significant resource to the homeless community in Cambridge, last year we support 836 people, making 21,427 visits to our centre, an increase of 13% on the previous year.”
