CLUB BEGINS PRELIMINARY TALKS WITH MARSHALL ON POTENTIAL STADIUM LOCATION

29 May 2019

Cambridge United FC can confirm that preliminary talks have taken place with Marshall on a potential future stadium location. Speaking on behalf of the Board, Director Ian Mather said:

“Earlier this month Marshall of Cambridge announced its plans to relocate its aerospace business and put the Cambridge Airport land forward to be considered for development as part of the next Local Plan.  Cambridge United is pleased to confirm that the Club is now in discussion with Marshall and other key stakeholders about the possibility of including a new stadium in the plans for the area.  This is in addition to the announcement at the AGM that we are working with Marshall and Hill to establish a new training centre on the Marleigh development which is now underway on adjoining land to the north of Newmarket Road.

‘The Board is obviously very grateful for the chance to explore this potential opportunity and it is our hope that Cambridge United could be part of the exciting vision to transform this part of the City with the Club remaining in the Abbey Ward. We all recognise that we are at the very start of talks and there is a long way to go before this ambition could be realised. There are also obviously a host of questions that people will have to which we clearly don’t have answers at the moment. It would also not be appropriate to give a running commentary on these future discussions as we don’t want expectations to get ahead of the reality. Equally we do recognise the  importance of this to our fans and the need to be transparent so we will endeavour to update everyone as and if things develop further over the months ahead.'
