GREG TAYLOR EXTENDS CONTRACT TO 2020 WITH CAMBRIDGE UNITED

Cambridge United defender Greg Taylor has extended his contract at the Abbey Stadium until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 28 year old has developed into one of United's most reliable performers across the last 18 months, becoming a regular at the heart of the U's back four having moved into central defence on a regular basis this season.

The extended contract will see Taylor, who has also become a popular figure with supporters at the Abbey, continue to pull on the amber and black shirt for a further two years.

Delighted to be penning an extended deal with the Football Club, Taylor said: "I'm really excited to have signed a new extension on my time at Cambridge United. I'm happy to be here – it's a club that feels like home now.

"Having been here for a number of years, you soon get to know everybody around the Club, not only the staff but I also feel like I've developed a good relationship with a lot of the fans too.

"The aim is to continue to play that central role in the back four going forwards, and I want to nail that down like I have done this season, as well as develop more leadership qualities where I can."

Joining the U's from Luton Town back in 2013, Taylor enjoyed FA Trophy and Conference play-off success at Wembley during his first season at the Club, and went on to feature in both FA Cup fixtures against Manchester United.

In March, Taylor racked up his double century of starts for the U's against Wycombe Wanderers, making him the second longest serving player at the Club. He has become a hugely important component of the United first team squad, with his versatility at full back and centre midfield also offering the U's further options when required.

Cambridge United Head of Football, Ben Strang added: "Greg’s had arguably one of his best seasons since joining the club and has matured in to one of the top centre halves in the league in our opinion. He’s a solid, consistent character and terrific professional who understands and buys in to the club’s culture and values. We’re thrilled to secure his future to the club for the next two seasons and believe he can play an integral part in the club’s aspirations.”
