MATCH PREVIEW: DONCASTER ROVERS AWAY

MATCH PREVIEW: DONCASTER ROVERS AWAY

Cambridge United travel to the Keepmoat Stadium tonight searching for their first win of the 2016/17 Sky Bet League Two season against Doncaster Rovers.

Following a disappointing Saturday afternoon in Colchester, with Shaun Derry’s men falling to their just their first defeat in ten competitive matches, the U’s will be looking to bounce back at the earliest possible opportunity against the Dons this evening.

Having picked up a valuable point against Barnet on the opening day of the new campaign United are already off the mark, but will be keen to collect all three points available tonight.

Like the U’s, Doncaster are still waiting for their opening victory in Sky Bet League Two after being relegated into the division from League One last season.

Darren Ferguson’s side got themselves off the mark on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw at home to Crawley Town having suffered an opening day defeat at the hands of last year’s play-off hopefuls Accrington Stanley.

Tonight’s sides met last season in the second round of the FA Cup, with three quick fire goals from the Dons cancelling out a Cambridge United first half lead that sent Shaun Derry’s men out of the competition.

That match at the Cambs Glass Stadium levelled the head to head records between the teams, with both now boasting eight wins against each other.

Looking ahead to the match, Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry commented: “Quite simply we are looking for a response and a marked improvement in our performance levels against Doncaster.

“Saturday just wasn’t us and we want to perform like we know we can. We face a team similar to the side we played at the weekend given that they came down from League One last year.

“They are a good side but we have to make sure they are in for a real difficult League Two encounter.”

Tickets for tonight’s match are available to buy on the gate at the Keepmoat Stadium.
