MATCH PREVIEW: CAMBRIDGE UTD VS MORECAMBE

MATCH PREVIEW: MORECAMBE

Cambridge United welcome Morecambe to the Abbey Stadium in Sky Bet League Two action tonight, and will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak to five games.

A goalless draw for Shaun Derry’s men  against Carlisle United on Saturday means that a play-off position is still a possibility come 7th May, but they will certainly need to pick up all three points if they to keep their hopes alive.

As well as long term injuries to Barry Corr, Ryan Donaldson, Greg Taylor and Conor Newton, the U’s will wait to see whether Leon Legge is available for selection after the centre back limped off with a leg injury during Saturday’s clash with the Cumbrians.

However, they can be optimistic about the fixture having toppled the Shrimps 4-2 earlier in the campaign at the Globe Arena, with what turned out to be Shaun Derry’s first victory as U’s boss.

This evening’s opponents will certainly pose a problem for United, having secured safety from relegation which will allow them to play with a freedom and ‘nothing to lose’ attitude at the Abbey Stadium.

Jim Bentley’s side held high flying Accrington Stanley to a 2-2 draw away from home last weekend, providing further proof that the Shrimps are more than capable of mixing it with the big boys of the division.

The sides are level on three wins each on the overall head-to-head record, with the away team picking up the win from the last three meetings.

The support of the Amber Army will once again will be vital for the U’s, with supporters able to purchase tickets online and by calling 01223 566 500 throughout the day. The ticket office will also be open right up until kick off for those walking up to the game.
