U’S LOOKING FOR A RESPONSE AGAINST YORK SAYS SIMPSON

Simpson looks ahead to York Clash

Cambridge United striker Robbie Simpson looks ahead to this weekend’s Sky Bet League Two clash against York City at Bootham Crescent.

The 30-year old feels the U’s will travel to North Yorkshire tomorrow afternoon confident they can secure a winning result, as United look to bounce back quickly from the defeat to League leaders Wycombe earlier this week.

Simpson said: “The confidence is building amongst the players and hopefully the scoreline against Wycombe doesn't dampen that at all and we can go to York and get a positive result.

“After a defeat you want a game to come as soon as possible and luckily that’s what we have with the York game. I am sure we will be fully prepared for the match after some good training this week.

“I think we started the Wycombe game exceptionally well and forced them into a change of formation. They possibly ended the first half stronger and in the second half the sending off had a huge impact.

“But I thought we showed a lot of heart and dug in well.”

With a return from injury for a number of key players, including Barry Corr, and the promising performances of United’s other strikers, Simpson believes the U’s have a number of options to start scoring the goals required and return to winning ways this weekend.

“It will be good to potentially have Barry [Corr] back this weekend after his injuries,” he said.

“Obviously he started the season on fire and it was a massive downer for him to pick up the knock that he did. Hopefully he is back fit now and can carry on firing the goals in.

“But we have also got a good selection of strikers with the likes of Rory Gaffney and Jordan Chiedozie coming off the bench and doing really well, and they are positive signs. There are good options for the gaffer [Richard Money] to choose from.

“However, individually and as a group we are focused on the game against York. We will head up there, do our best to get the result and then turn our focus to Portsmouth at home next week.”
