DELIGHTED DUNK ON COBBLERS WIN

United Midfielder looks ahead to busy week

Goal scorer Harrison Dunk reflects on a momentum boosting result against Northampton Town, ahead of a busy schedule of fixtures this week.

The U’s midfielder registered a wonderful strike past formidable Cobbler’s keeper Adam Smith during the first half of Saturday’s clash to set United on their way to a 2-1 win at the Abbey Stadium.

A delighted Dunk said: “The goal was one of my better ones, I just took a touch, opened up and beat Adam Smith which was a real tough ask on the day. He had a great game and is good keeper, so it was going to take something special to beat him.

“I thought the second goal was a good team goal too, we could have maybe scored a few more like that as well. Once we got the goals, we battled hard and did what we had to do to get an important three points.”

United now face two fixtures with Exeter City and Yeovil Town in the West Country over the next five days and Dunk feels Saturday’s win has set them up perfectly for a positive run of League games.

He said: “It was a good result to get a big week off to a good start, the three points were important.

“It puts us in good stead heading into this week’s matches, which we will look to build on. There is no point us winning at the weekend and then not gaining on it, so we’re looking forward to this week.

“Everybody knows about the injuries and suspensions that we have at the moment but we don’t want to use them as excuses. We have looked at ourselves and just want to keep building to make our own luck.”
