Having started the season in much the same vein of form in which the U’s forward ended the last - scoring 21 goals in all competitions throughout the 21/22 campaign - Sam Smith has been nominated for both the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month and the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award, with fans being able to cast their vote below for the latter by clicking here.
Smith’s trio of goals against Burton in a comeback win for Mark Bonner’s team sticks firmly in the memory, while the forward was also on target against the Grecians a fortnight prior, scoring the first in a 2-1 win.
His four goals in August has seen the forward shortlisted for the two awards - in addition to the Love Cambridge Club Award - and he is up against competition in the form of Bristol Rovers' Aaron Collins, Sheffield Wednesday's Liam Palmer and Peterborough United's Joe Ward for the Sky Bet League One gong.
Nominated alongside Smith for the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award is Ipswich’s Conor Chaplin, Portsmouth’s Colby Bishop, Bristol Rovers' Aaron Collins and Peterborough’s Jonson Clarke-Harris, while former U Jevani Brown is also up for the award for his exploits with Exeter City throughout August.
