EX-PLAYERS DAY – Exeter City Fixture

15 October 2019

Cambridge United are delighted to confirm details of this weekend’s celebration of former U’s players, delivered in collaboration with Cambridge United Former Players’ Association.

This Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Exeter City has been designated as the Club’s now annual celebration of those who have previously pulled on the black and amber shirt or played a key role in our heritage as a player or manager.

Following on from the success of last season’s celebration against Mansfield Town, once again this year the gathering will see over 30 former stars welcomed back to the Abbey for the Amber Army to show their appreciation.

The day will include an opportunity for supporters to mingle alongside their former heroes both before and after the match, whilst the stadium will collectively be given the chance to show it’s gratitude as each legend is introduced to the crowd at half time.

Schedule for the day:

Pre-match – 2pm – Former Players available to meet in the Abbey Arms (Behind Main Stand)

Half-Time – Former Players introduced to the Abbey on the pitch

Post-match – Former Players available to meet in the Dion Dublin Bar/Premier Travel Suite

Approximately 30 ex-players, representing eras from the 1950s to the present day, will be present to renew old friendships and make new ones, in a Cambridge United Former Players’ Association (CUFPA) gathering.

CUFPA, which was set up in 2015 and is managed by 100 Years of Coconuts, has more than 160 members drawn from almost every era of United history. Chaired by legendary 1960s goalkeeper Rodney Slack, it offers members a website, newsletters, occasional get-togethers and, most importantly, a means of keeping in touch with old friends, teammates and other members of the extended U’s family.

Names already on the guest list include the likes of Brendon Batson, Roy McFarland, John Taylor and Paul Wanless! We’ll be revealing the full list of players later this week.
