JENNY HORSFIELD BECOMES FIRST FEMALE DIRECTOR ON THE CAMBRIDGE UNITED BOARD

26 May 2020

Jenny Horsfield has been appointed as the first female Director on the Cambridge United Board of Directors.

Jenny is Senior Vice President of business development and the Chief Financial Officer at Carrick Therapeutics, the Oncology biotech company. Jenny has also been a Trustee of the Cambridge United Community Trust since 2016 and, during her previous role at AstraZeneca, was instrumental in setting up the Trust’s Active Science programme that aims to increase primary school children’s enthusiasm for science through sport.

Jenny was one of ten women with Board-level potential to take part in the FA’s inaugural Women’s Leadership Programme run out of Wembley Stadium. The programme aims to increase the number of women in leadership roles, in football generally, and particularly in the Boardroom.

Shaun Grady Chairman of the Board said: “The entire Board and Paul Barry are delighted that Jenny has agreed to become a Director of the Club. This is an important step to help ensure Cambridge United has a Board that is more representative of all our great fans. I’ve had the privilege to know Jenny, for over ten years as colleagues at AZ during which time Jenny and her family have lived and worked in both Japan and China as well as Macclesfield before relocating to Cambridge. In addition to contributing significantly to our diversity, Jenny brings really clear thinking, extremely sound judgement and deep business experience gained in different cultures and countries.

“Jenny is a huge football fan, is passionate about the Club and has already done much to help support the Trust over recent years including being the original architect of the Trust’s award winning Active Science programme.”

Jenny Horsfield said: “I am delighted to join the Board of Cambridge United and it is a genuine honour to be the first woman Director at the Club. I know through my time on the Trust Board just what a great asset Cambridge United is to the City and the wider community, something we have all seen underlined during the current pandemic through the ‘Here for U’s‘ programme. I look forward to helping the Club develop further on and off the pitch at what is a critically important moment for all football clubs.”
