Community Trust & Ian Darler win at Living Sport Awards!

15 December 2020

The Living Sport Sports Awards on the evening of December 3rd recognised and celebrated the achievements of talented sports people, the significant contribution made by coaches and volunteers, and showcased the organisations and clubs who are using sport and physical activity to make a positive impact on people’s lives across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.

The annual event was held virtually this year due to Covid-19. Cambridge United Community Trust and Ian Darler made the shortlist for the awards. The Community Trust were up for the Matthew Warn Power of Sport award; whilst Ian was nominated for the Services to Sport Award. We’re delighted to announce that both came away with the awards on the evening!

“A sport project or initiative that has had a positive impact on the lives of others around them, the Matthew Warn Power of Sport award recognises the significant contribution it has made to their community as a direct result of adopting a more active lifestyle.”

The Community Trust were recognised for their Here For U’s Covid-response work, ensuring that Cambridge United provided emotional, physical and practical support in this most difficult of years.

“Having given long-term outstanding service to sport, the Services to Sport award recognises their sustained and unique contribution to people’s lives, telling a compelling story about the impact they have had on individuals and the wider community.”

Ian was recognised for his incredible service to Cambridge United Football Club, serving as Head Groundsman as well as Stadium Manager for 40+ years. Alongside this, his incredibly successful fundraising efforts have raised thousands for local and national charities. Ian richly deserves this award and his efforts over his long career have also resulted in him receiving a British Empire Medal this year.

Well done Ian and our Community Trust for their awards!
