Leon Davies wins PFA Community Champion for the 2019/20 Season

4 August 2020

Cambridge United are pleased to present Leon Davies with the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Community Champion award in recognition of his support for Cambridge United Community Trust during the 2019/20 season.

Having grown up only a few miles away from the Abbey Stadium in Milton, and even playing for Arbury Aces as a youngster, Leon genuinely is the epitome of the phrase “one of our own.” It is not solely Leon who has has thrown himself into community activities this year though, with over 150 hours of engagement committed by the first team alongside a significant donation made by the U’s players over lockdown.

Leon was nominated having consistently attended sessions and events throughout the season.

On receiving the award, he said: “I am delighted to have been given this award and really enjoy getting involved in the Community Trust’s work. Over the past few months, the Here For U’s campaign especially has highlighted to me how committed the Club are to supporting people of all ages in our local area. It’s something in which I’m very proud to be involved and will continue to champion the work of the Trust.”

Whether it was visiting the CUCT Premier League Kicks sessions at Orchard Park Community Centre or delivering presents to the children spending their Christmas holiday period in hospital, Leon has repeatedly shown his commitment to the Trust’s vision.

Moreover supporting the EFL’s ‘Day of Action’, Leon headed along to the Trust’s Every Player Counts Frame Football Session. As the Covid-19 outbreak struck, Leon was keen to continue his support: ringing seniors at risk of loneliness, speaking out about mental health, and supporting virtual assemblies run by the Community Trust’s education team.
