COLIN CALDERWOOD SIGNS TWO YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION AS HEAD COACH

20 September 2019

Colin Calderwood has today signed a two year extension to his existing contract as Head Coach at Cambridge United keeping him at the Club until summer 2022.

Speaking on behalf of the Board Graham Daniels, Director of Football, said: “We are very pleased that Colin has agreed to extend his initial 18 month contract by a further two years. We are building for the long term at the Club and believe that Colin is the right man to help us move forward to achieve our collective ambitions.

“He has been a great influence both on and off the pitch in the relatively short time he has been with us, working extremely well alongside Ben Strang, Mark Bonner and the whole backroom staff. The Board is very encouraged that Colin shares our vision for the future and we all recognise that a lot of hard work lies ahead.

“It is great news that he has committed himself to the Club until summer 2022.”

On confirming his position at the Abbey for a prolonged period, Colin Calderwood commented: “I’m delighted to have been offered an extended stay and am looking forward to the next two and a half years. We have a good foundation here and I really enjoy the environment I work in and the people I work with, so there really was no hesitation in penning the deal.

“I hope the contract works both ways and brings not only the obvious security to me personally, but also a further level of stability and solidity to the Football Club. It’s a nice feeling to have the faith put into me, but I must also admit this is as comfortable and as happy as I have been for a long time in a Club.

“I feel invigorated by the job and I am enjoying the new challenge of being the Head Coach again. I still want to have that ambition and that drive to search for victories on a match day and success across a season, and I must admit to enjoying the added pressure of being the Head Coach in that situation.”
