MATCH WINNER GREG TAYLOR PLEASED U’S “TICKED A LOT OF BOXES” AT NOTTS COUNTY

15 January 2019

Greg Taylor praises the U's game management and the Amber Army’s support which aided United in seeing out a “massive” win against Nott County in Sky Bet League Two.

The defender, who celebrates his 29th birthday today, rose highest to head in the decisive moment against the Magpies and feels it’s a performance that marks a big step forward for United.

He said: “We’ve ticked a lot of boxes. It’s nice that header gets the winning goal, we picked up the clean sheet, we get the three points and it’s a win away from home.

“That win and three points were a massive as it could get. We knew going to the game we had to keep Notts County down there and continue to edge our way out of it. So to get the result was huge.

“Of course I was over the moon to score the goal. Maris has floated it over, and I’ve managed to see the flight of the ball well and got my head to it, thankfully it’s hit the back of the net. I think it was good timing and I found myself in the right place to guide back into the net, so I was absolutely delighted with it.

“I said at the start of the season I wanted to chip in with a few more goals to help the team, and I’m still hoping to get a few more when I can.”

The U’s centre half was also very quick to pay homage to the magnificent backing provided by over 1,600 travelling U’s fans at Meadow Lane, without whom Taylor feels the result would not have been achieved.

He said: “Unbelievable support from our fans! Every single one of the 1,600 were fantastic.

“Honestly we could hear them the whole game and they definitely dug in and helped us through.

“They were massive in us getting over the line.”
