PLAYER PREVIEW | “GREAT GROUP BELIEF” KEEPS THE U’S FOCUSSED SAYS TAYLOR

23 November 2018

A strong mindset and close camaraderie within the U’s first team group is what Greg Taylor pinpoints as a pivotal attribute as United look to improve on recent downfalls.

The U’s play host to Bury F.C at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow afternoon, and whilst they will be aiming to secure their fourth straight win on home soil, three points would also be a welcome bounce back after a disappointing display on the road at Oldham last Saturday.

Taylor said: “We have to keep looking to the next game, and have been focussed on Saturday since getting into training on Monday morning so that we’re ready to go.

“It’s important we shake off any negativity, and you don’t want to carry anything forward into the next game that will have a detrimental effect.

“We addressed the situation from last Saturday pretty early on, you look to learn from your mistakes and then move on to the next game which is Bury on Saturday.

“It’s a tight group and we still have a great belief in the camp that we are better than where we find ourselves at the minute.

“It’s up to us as a team to put it right.”

The U’s centre back admits at this stage of the year and as the training and playing conditions become tougher, the manner in which United go about their business is less important if they are making progress with results and their position in the League table.

“It’s important we show both sides of it when we need to. Sometimes you’ll need the free flowing football and then other times you are going to need to battle. That is League Two in a nutshell.

“We have to look to be able to deliver both aspects when it’s required.

“We are definitely into the colder stage of the season, the winter months do not feel far away. The weather has certainly turned in the last week or so.

“This is where the tables really can turn and you learn which teams are up for it and which teams aren’t. When the conditions aren’t great, it comes down to the battling side of the game.

“When it’s windy, rainy and the pitch may be a little bobblier, that’s where you dig in and win ugly. I will be more than happy to be winning games ugly, don’t worry about that!”
