LIAM O’NEIL VISITS ST LAURENCE CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR TRUST MATCH REPORT PROJECT

6 April 2018

Cambridge United first teamer Liam O’Neil recently paid a visit to the latest crop of budding young journalists taking part in the Community Trust’s exciting Mini-Match Report Project, from St Laurence’s Catholic Primary School.

The U’s midfielder was on hand to referee two matches, before lending a hand back in the classroom as the year 5 and year 6 pupils of Owl and Magpie Classes, continued to develop their journalistic writing through the Trust’s innovative project.

Launched last year at Fen Ditton Primary School, the mini-match report project provides a unique opportunity for children to write a Cambridge United match report at a first-team game. These reports are the culmination of a series of classroom based sessions that allow children to develop their journalistic skills under the expert guidance of professional journalists. Sessions involve reporting upon school-based games, the editing process, how to work within the constraints of a word count and a sports photography workshop. Participants in the project also receive free tickets to watch a game, including a tour of the stadium and press areas beforehand.

The final match reports will then be judged by a panel of experts and three winners are published in local media outlets.

If you wish to hear more information on the project, please contact Tim Walker, CUCT Head of Primary School Sport and Education, via Tim.Walker@Cambridge-United.co.uk.
