MATCH REPORT | CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1 WYCOMBE 3

7 October 2017

A stunning brace from Ebere Eze and a late goal by Josh Umerah saw Wycombe Wanderers take the spoils at the Cambs Glass Stadium n Sky Bet League Two.

The U’s made no changes to the starting eleven from their previous League outing against Swindon Town.

George Maris tested Chairboys’ keeper Scott Brown inside ten minutes with a well struck free kick which Brown did well to palm away at his near post.

Despite Nathan Tyson leaving the field through injury on 21 minutes, the visitors had their fair share of openings on goal with centre back Anthony Stewart heading wide from a set piece before Sam Saunders saw a pair of mid-range attempts turned wide by U’s shot stopper David Forde.

However, the best chance of the half fell to Medy Elito who after dispossessing the Wycombe defence broke away one-on-one with Brown, who stayed tall to deny the U’s forward.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men wasted no time after the break in opening the scores, Eze catching a half volley sweetly on the outside of his right boot to guide an unstoppable shot past Forde.

It was two nil before the hour mark, Eze again picking out the same corner with his left foot this time from 25 yards to double the advantage.

Medy Elito reduced the deficit to one when smashing in a spot kick on 70 minutes, after Uche Ikpeazu had been felled in the Wycombe area.

United’s challenge for an equalising goal took a major blow ten minutes before full time though, when Leon Legge received a second yellow card for a foul on Craig Mackail-Smith with the Chairboys on the counter attack.

Substitute Josh Umerah sealed the game for the visitors when he clattered his way through the United defence before slotting into the U’s net on 89 minutes.
