Today's game against Halifax Town is the penultimate pay-on-the-day fixture, Tuesday's game against Rochdale being the last, as the final two home games against Peterborough United and Brentford are both all-ticket. Last Saturday's game against Cardiff City was well attended and we hope that we managed to inform as many as people as possible that the game was all-ticket. However, there are always a small minority who are unaware, most notably travelling casual football followers, and this fact wasn't helped when the morning papers didn't denote the fixture as being all-ticket, despite the Press Association having been notified of all three all-ticket games some time ago. The PA did, however, mark the game as all-ticket on their fixture sheet.
Whilst the North Terrace looked and no doubt felt packed last Saturday, other areas of the ground looked quite comfortable, particularly the Habbin Stand. When the crowd was announced it was inevitable that people would question where we would put the remaining 1,460 which would have taken us up to our recently revised capacity of 9,247. As some form of explanation in answer to that question, there were just over 100 Season Ticket holders who weren't at the game, Cardiff returned just over 120 tickets, there was quite a bit of space in the Habbin Stand and there are restricted view seats in the Main Stand which are not sold. The gate against Cardiff was our biggest League gate of the season and I am reliably informed by Statistician, Colin Faiers, that a crowd in excess of 3,647 this afternoon will see total attendances for first class matches at The Abbey this season go through the 100,000 barrier. Pleasingly, the average League attendance this season is now at 4,138 and is currently over 4,000 for the first time this season. Tickets for both the Peterborough United and Brentford games are presently on sale and if you are unable to get down to The Abbey during normal office hours then you can book over the telephone using Visa, Access or Switch. Don't forget that we are also open on the following Saturday mornings between 9.30am and 12.30pm when the first team are playing away: April 17th and May 1st. There are ample opportunities to avoid missing out on these vitally important games and the usual last minute scramble for tickets. Last Friday morning, Mark Johnson and I opened the Ticket Office for the last chance for people to buy tickets for the Cardiff game. We decided not to take telephone bookings on Friday and it was just as well as we were busy from the time of opening to closing, selling just over 450 tickets. A telephone message was recorded for those ringing in to the Club and we hope that this kept supporters informed. After describing witnessing seeing a Fiesta on fire on the way to watching the 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury a fortnight ago in my last programme notes it was a case of deja-vu when travelling to Brighton on Tuesday. There on the hard shoulder of the M25 was a car with a burnt-out engine and yes, you've guessed it, it was a Fiesta! Now being more than a little superstitious I was concerned that I was about to witness another 1-1 draw. Fortunately. we cruised to a convincing 3-1 victory, with the 'fiesta-la-resistance' (pathetic, I know!) being Jamie Campbell's exquisite chip over the advancing Brighton 'keeper for his fifth goal of the season. We are now approaching the time of season when we are updating our databases in preparation to send out Season Ticket renewal forms, Therefore, if you have changed address since purchasing your Season Ticket then now is the time to notify us of any amendments to your details.
