Firstly, my thanks to Will Jones for writing this page in Saturday's programme. I can only echo his words and say that the Moosenet gathering at the Cardiff game was a great success and we all enjoyed meeting and putting faces to the names of people we have 'known' through the mailing list for some time. Discussions have already started about the next one!
If you have email and would like to join the mailing list, details are on the U's Net web site or you can email the list owner and ask to be added. His address is under Michael Kyd's picture on the sponsorship page. Moosenet is a lively list with diverse content and contributors, and we were complimented on its standard by several Cardiff fans who joined in the week preceding the game and left again a few days afterwards. After the Cardiff game I took the opportunity to ask Abbey legend John Taylor if he would answer questions posed by fans via the U's Net web site or Moosenet, and he kindly agreed. This will hopefully be as successful and interesting as the questions posed to Roy McFarland earlier this season, and there is currently a form on U's Net where you can type your question for John. The U's Net web site continues to attract incredible numbers of visitors. Last week the visitor counter crashed through 170,000, and in the month of March alone over 15,000 unique 'hits' on the front page were recorded. I am sure this is not unconnected with the success Roy McFarland's team is having on the pitch! Cambridge United really moved into the electronic age last week when the club's official on-line club shop opened for business. The new web site means that, in effect, the shop and the club merchandise is accessible 24 hours a day - wherever in the world you are. The site gives pictures, descriptions and prices for a wide range of replica kit, clothing and souvenirs, and surfers can browse the items, make their selection and then complete their order by supplying credit card details via a secure server. The web site address is http://www.cambridge-united.co.uk and it can be accessed by anyone with a computer that is connected to the Internet and a modern browser programme like Netscape or Internet Explorer. The aim is to dispatch orders within two working days and new stock will be added all the time, allowing any U's fan, wherever they live, to have the latest kit and other United goodies. Orders have already been received from all over the British Isles and as far afield as the USA and Australia. With the growth of the Internet in general, I feel this is an important step for Cambridge United - not only in terms of communicating with the supporters wherever they may be, but making the most of the commercial opportunity which is vital for a club like ours.
