From the Manager

Roy McFarland - Peterborough, Saturday 24th April 1999

rule

Roy McFarland Everyone from the supporters through to the playing staff have been looking forward to this game. It should make for an exciting match considering the drive both clubs have at the moment and, without doubt, everyone from Peterborough will be feeling the same.

Both sides will be desperate to win today and Peterborough will be very keen to keep alive their play-off hopes. They will also be very keen after a comfortable 4-0 win over Torquay last weekend.

We should not be worried by the fact that our opponents today will be especially competitive due to their position as in a sense, at this stage of the season, it is up to us to worry about our own game, rather than the confidence of the other team.

I was reasonably content after the Darlington result. The only real winner on that day was the pitch. A lot has been said and written about their pitch in the past, and it has 'lived up' to all our expectations on the day!

We weren't under a tremendous amount of danger in that game so, in a sense, I am not really that disappointed with the result. To their credit, they did have a little flourish at the end where they might have felt that they could have got a goal, but our keeper made a very good save to preserve the point.

Before that we had the best chance of the game and Richard Walker will be disappointed enough at missing that goal without anyone having to tell him. Obviously we would have preferred to have bagged a few more points, but other results do seem to be going our way at the moment. In fact, none of the three top sides actually found the back of the net on Saturday. I believe that our destiny is still firmly in our hands.

The Rochdale game, however, was disappointing from our point of view. It was a horrible night for the game with the wet and windy conditions and we just didn't really get going. Although, as I said, Richard Walker was disappointed at Darlington, we were delighted with his goal just four minutes from time against Rochdale which rescued us a point.

Finally I would like to welcome Barry Fry and his team to today's game. Without doubt the atmosphere will be electric and I trust that both sets of supporters will be well behaved and keep their support within acceptable levels of behaviour.
