Roy McFarland The win against Halifax on Saturday has firmly put us in control of our own destiny and as the season draws to an end, we at the Abbey are confident that our winning ways will continue.

I would, however, like to extend a warm welcome to our visitors Rochdale, who were are playing for the first time this season after a postponed match at their place in November.

Like any game, we are still not taking our opponents for granted. It is wrong to underestimate any team and despite Rochdale struggling in the league this term, they are are a team playing for pride. Any team playing for pride is always a threat because they will be keen to defeat a side riding high at the top.

The Halifax game was a great win for us at the weekend, especially with all our rivals in the top eight dropping points. In fact, I think that we were one of the only teams to collect all the points on offer that day. Cardiff were held to a draw by Orient, who are also another team looking to improve on their position and with both teams not helping their positions, I am a happier man.

Having said that, we were not at our most convincing on the day, especially in the first half. We were very laboured and Halifax were content for us to make mistakes. At the break, however, I had a few strong words with the players as I was very disappointed with our passing and the fact that we didn't get our football going. The penalty miss typified our problems on the day.

I was beginning to wonder if we had hit a brick wall, but after the break the players relaxed and we got our movement going. The game was then never really in doubt after our first goal.

Everyone at the club is absolutely buzzing now, particularly after the Halifax match. The crowd were superb and with John Taylor scoring that record breaking goal, it ended the day on a perfect note.

It was a great shot to take the record and he is the right man to become the club's all-time top goal scorer. He is a great example to the other players both in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

The only slight disappointment of the day was the loss of Neil MacKenzie. He has twisted his ankle badly and will be out of action for a few weeks. However, in the past when we have had to change the teams around, we have always come out on top and I'm not that worried. It is just a shame for him.

Generally the Easter period has been good to Cambridge. This time of year can be the making or the breaking of a club. Consistency is vital at a time when games are coming thick and fast. Hopefully, we can continue the winning ways with the Abbey crowd getting firmly behind us tonight.

Alex Russell could make a return and, if he does, he will be itching to put in a good performance against his former club.
