From the Manager

Roy McFarland - Halifax Town, Saturday 10th April 1999

Roy McFarland Welcome today to all the staff, players and management of Halifax Town. It is really a make or break time at the moment for Halifax who are in their first season back in the Football League. They have fallen away recently and will be desperate for points today to keep them in the play-off picture.

We know that they are difficult opposition as we were involved in a very tough 3-3 draw at their place back in October.

It is good for the club that they are challenging though, and nowadays it is almost expected that a team coming up from the Conference will be there or thereabouts at the top of Division Three with the momentum they have behind them.

Make no mistake we will not take them lightly. They have a lot to play for and we are sure to be up for it to continue our recent run which saw us earn a very respectable goalless draw against Cardiff here at the Abbey last Saturday.

It was a nervous match for supporters and never took off as spectacle but it was always going to he a tight game and in the end I believe that a draw was a fair result. Cardiff could have scored 10 minutes from time but we might have snatched it at the death when Paul Wanless headed wide.

We showed a lot of character throughout and coped very well without Trevor Benjamin, Alex Russell and Marc Joseph. The players that came in showed they were capable of doing a job and it reinforces the point that football is a squad game.

Looking back at the Cardiff game the only disappointing aspect about it was that we didn't use the ball well enough when we were going forward, but what was important was that they didn't steal a three point advantage on us.

In a sense, I believe they would be the more disappointed side not to have won. But although we have games in hand they count for nothing until points can be taken from them, but the win against Brighton has put us in pole position; it's now up to us to ensure we are not caught.
