Roy McFarland We go into this game against Torquay in great spirits after some pleasing results over the festive period. I'm very pleased with the returm we've had over Christmas and the New Year, with our home game against Rotherham, which we won on Boxing Day, and our two long trips to Carlisle and Hartlepool, in which we picked up points.

We've been unbeaten in the games during this difficult period and it's a bit of a first for us. I'm delighted because it shows that the players have applied themselves properly after the festivities.

We welcome Wes Saunders, the players and everyone associated with Torquay to the Abbey for what I think will be a difficult game. Having played the likes of Carlisle and Hartlepool recently, who are also in the bottom six, we've found that the games are not easy and we can take nothing for granted.

I am certain Torquay will be the same so it will be up to us to apply ourselves and make sure that we do not drop points. We've won our last few home games, providing a great deal of entertainment and the supporters have picked up on that. Our gates have improved during the spell and it is a big plus for the club. Long may it continue!

Torquay are the draw specialists in our division with 10 draws in 23 games, but I feel confident. We haven't drawn many ourselves because we've always been positive throughout the season by going at teams, and so we've tended to win or lose. I see no reason to change our approach.

Our recent run has moved us up to third place, and everything is very close up at the top. Cardiff have opened up a bit of a gap and it's up to us, as one of the chasing pack, to close it down. If most teams in the division put together a run of three or four wins, they would find themselves not only fighting for a play-off spot, but battling for a position in the top three.

I would also like to pay tribute to the way striker Trevor Benjamin has responded in the past couple of games. There has been no bigger a critic of the way he's acted in the past few weeks than me, and I think Trevor has suffered because of that in terms of his football. However, his performances in the past two matches have shown that he is starting to pick up his game.

When he does play well, Trevor is an awesome sight and he got his rewards with a goal in our 3-2 win against Northampton in the Auto Windscreens Shield on Tuesday night by using his strength.

Trevor has certainly reacted well on the football field and I hope that something will be resolved soon. The ball is firmly in his court now and I hope we can sort things out.

Finally, I hope everyone has now got over the New Year festivities and will continue to support us as we try to extend our unbeaten run.
