Roy McFarland Losing a goal in injury-time, like we did against Exeter City, is never the easiest of things to accept, but overall I was pleased with the way we played. It was a tough game coming on the back of our Sheffield Wednesday tie and we did look tired - but we stuck at it.

We didn't lose the game, which is good, because that would really have been a kick up the backside. But, more importantly, it means that we are picking up points and climbing the League.

The one downside of the game was Trevor Benjamin's sending off. I am still mystified by that decision, even after seeing the video several times. Both boys seemed to put their feet up and tried to protect themselves, but unfortunately their guy came off worse.

We just have to accept that we are going to be missing Trevor for three games after tonight but thankfully he gets the suspension over and done within seven days with the way the fixtures fall. But obviously I am sad to lose a player who is in good form and creating interest from other Clubs.

There has been interest from a variety of managers from different Divisions, but as yet nothing has been put down on the table. The important thing, as far as I am concerned, is to keep the feet of everyone at the Club, including Trevor, firmly on the ground.

I would like to keep Trevor at The Abbey, but we are realistic. We are a selling club and that is what keeps us afloat. It has happened throughout the history of the Club, but I would love to keep him here and the squad together because we are a relatively strong unit.

That said, I don't think that we are as strong in depth as I would like us to be. We lose Trevor after tonight and we are already without Ian Ashbee and Michael Kyd through injury. Then we lost Ben Chenery for the Hull game after he took a bad knock on the shin and ankle in training.

Thankfully it is not as bad as the original x-rays showed and there is no crack in the bone. Ben has some severe bruising and it is likely to be around ten days before he's back. That leaves us a bit thin on the ground and even more so since I have released Tommy Smith. I've had Tommy here for about three months solid, but I felt that he couldn't help the squad.

Our victory at Hull was pleasing for me because we again found goals from other sources than our strikers. I'm especially pleased for Andy Duncan who has finally scored his first League goal. Your first League game is always important, and so is your first goal, but now he has to want to score more. He's had enough chances to to have reached double figures before now, but hopefully now he's got one there'll be a lot more on the way.

He's certainly come in for a lot of stick from the rest of the lads this week since the The Sun decided to mark his first League goal by getting his name wrong. They called him Pat and that has now stuck as his nickname - in fact I think we now have a new postman around The Abbey in Andy "Postman Pat" Duncan!

But onto tonight's game with Brighton and Hove Albion. I know it will not be an easy game and I know their manager Brian Horton really well. It must be hard for him and the players to have to play their games at Gillingham. It must be disruptive, but I understand that they are moving back to Brighton soon and, as far as I am concerned, the sooner they can the better it will be for them.

Sentiment, though, doesn't come into football and we have got to do our best in order to bring ourselves that little bit closer to the top of the table.

Finally I want to extend a warm welcome to everyone connected with Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club and I hope you all enjoy the game.
