Roy McFarland was disappointed that his side did not record their first away win of the season last night at Wrexham. Speaking to the media afterwards he commented, "That is the nearest we have got to our first away win. I didn't think one goal was going to be enough. It was important to get a second goal but we were pinned back for long periods when we had to defend. "At least now we are starting to pick up points away from home. I was satisfied by the performance and if our improvement continues perhaps we will win on Saturday at Blackpool." Skipper Paul Wanless, who put in another hard-working performance at the heart of midfield and looks to be getting back to his battling best, added, "We are working hard for each other and after winning on Saturday our aim now is to keep the roll going. We should have had three points. We are very disappointed after battling hard and getting so close to the winning line." Top scorer Martin Butler was withdrawn after 75 minutes to be replaced by John Taylor for the first time this season. Trevor Peer on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire suggested that he was substituted for his own good after appearing to lose his temper at some of the challenges coming his way, while some supporters thought it was to make way for a player who could hold the ball up and cut down the number of times United were losing possession. Wrexham boss Bryan Flynn, who came under fire from his own supporters during the match, has not seen his side win at home the 18th September, concluded, "We came up against a solid hardworking side who are hard to break down. Things are starting to improve. I am not saying things are rosy but they are getting better." All quotes from sports.com |
