Thursday 18th November 1999 : Mystery club in bid for Benjamin

In today's exclusive interview for U's Net Roy McFarland revealed that Brentford are not the only club to have made an offer for Trevor Benjamin.

Roy McFarlandHe told Will Jones, "Brentford have been told what we require and that hasn't changed and won't change until Brentford want to come back and do something. There has also been, for Trevor Benjamin, another offer put on the table. I don't think we need to say who the other football club is at this moment, and again we have told them that it is not what we are looking for, it's not enough.

"That is the situation, and Trevor Benjamin like Martin Butler has been told with regards to the interest that has come in."

Yesterday he hinted that there had been increased interest in Benjamin since Friday's win against Luton, so it is likely that the bid is a recent one.

Meanwhile, on Brentford's ClubCall service, Ron Noades has revealed that during negotiations for Benjamin McFarland named a player he would take in exchange but Brentford were not willing to let him go.

The U's manager also revealed that trialist striker Steve Guinan, of Nottingham Forest, has done well this week but his wages could be a problem, while midfielder Alex Russell is having a second week of intensive treatment at Lilleshall and is a long way off a return to the first team.
