Monday 8th November 1999 : FA Youth Cup result

Adam Tann and James Mercer returned to youth team duties tonight after being named among the substitutes for Saturday's first team match, but were unable to stop Colchester United taking revenge for their 4-1 home defeat in the Youth Alliance Cup just over two weeks ago

United started well and took the lead through the in-form Alex Revell after 17 minutes. But after a good first half for the home side, Colchester came back into it after the break and goals from K.K. Opara (70) and Rick Metcalfe (78) sealed the tie.

Several of the strong Colchester team were involved for their reserve side that visited the Abbey for a 0-0 draw last Wednesday, and they will face Walsall in the third round.

For United, reporter Mark Johnson was impressed with Daniel Huggins at left-back and striker Alex Revell, while Adam Tann and Daniel Chillingworth performed reasonably well. The attendance was 162.

Cambridge United: Mercer, Nacca, Huggins, Hill, Tann, Cockrill, Bridges, Lockhart, Chillingworth, Revell, Kamara.
Subs: Cox, Rush, Paynter, Armes, Bennett.

Colchester United: Walker, Wignall, Taylor, Gyoury, Heighway, Canham, Okafor, Hillier, Opara, Chambers, Pinault.
Subs: Metcalfe, Williamson, Hearn, Delaney, Hadrava.

The next game at the Abbey is the reserves' 'mini derby' against Peterborough United in the Avon Combination Cup on Wednesday night (7pm).
