Wednesday 3rd November 1999 : Multi-national reserve side in draw

The reserves drew 0-0 with Colchester United at the Abbey Stadium this afternoon (2pm) and the line-up included several international trialists and a former England Youth captain.

Former Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Hamidou Tangara was included, along with Norwegian defender Sinore Eid of Hodd, Finnish midfielder Patrik Ronkanen of Kraft FF, and French left winger Denis Abed (Wasquehal), who played his third game for the reserves and was offered a short term contract last week.

Sheffield United's Jon O'Connor played in defence, and he should know about us after former U Jody Craddock recently completed a loan spell at Bramall Lane from Sunderland. 23-year-old O'Connor is a graduate of the FA School at Lilleshall, a former England Youth captain and started his career at Everton. He won several England Under-21 caps in his time at Goodison but injuries and a lack of first team opportunity saw him move on to Sheffield United. He can play in the centre of defence or at right-back.

I hope to able to to bring some fans'-eye impressions later.

The team line-ups were:

Cambridge United: Tangara, Chenery, Armstrong, Paterson, Eid, O'Connor, Abed, Cassidy, Chillingworth, Ingham, Ronkanen.
Subs: McNeil, Mercer, Tann, Taylor, Hill.

Colchester United: Walker, Hillier, Taylor, Germain, Wignall, Highway, Pinault, Walker, Opara, Moralee, Lock.
Subs: Delaney, Canham, Hadrava, Metcalf, Williams.
