Tuesday 30th May 2000 : Chairman congratulates local rivals

Cambridge United chairman Reg Smart has congratulated local rivals Peterborough United on their promotion to Division Two. They beat Darlington on Friday evening at Wembley in the Division Three play-off final and the U's chairman told the Cambridge Evening News that he is looking forward to renewing the local derby matches.

"It's absolutely fantastic," he said. "I've got a lot of time for Barry Fry and feel so proud for him. And if their chairman was anything like me ... well, I cried my eyes out when we beat Chesterfield. To sit in the Royal Box and watch your team win is fantastic.

"It means we have three derbies in Division Two now - Luton, Northampton and Posh - but obviously the Peterborough game will create a lot of interest, particularly on the Internet between the fans! And, of course, it will be profitable for both sides."
