Friday 19th May 2000 : Bristol City boss confirms Trevor interest

Today's Bristol Evening Post confirms the rumours that Bristol City boss Tony Gawthrop has Trevor Benjamin at the top of his shopping list.

The report states that the City board meet next week to decide Gawthrop's transfer budget, while the new City boss is afraid that Benjamin's call to train with the England Under-21 squad has forced up his value.

"Obviously Benjamin would cost a lot, but then so did Ade Akinbiyi. It’s just down to whether we think that he’s worth the million or whatever Cambridge value him at. But whatever value he was, it’s gone up since he was called up for England," Fawthrop told the Evening Post. "But we’re considering other options and there are players such as David Reeves and Brett Angel who are journeymen with proven records who could do a job for us – and they’re free."
