Thursday 11th May 2000 : United announce prices for next season

Cambridge United today announced the prices for next season, which begins on August 12th, and for the third successive season the prices show an increase.

The media release reads as follows:

Although there is a £1.00 increase across the board on match-day admission prices, the club is offering a massive saving of between 22% and 29% for season ticket holders who take advantage of the Early Purchase Discount Scheme and buy their season tickets before Friday June 16th at 5pm.

The Children's Special Early Purchase price has been frozen at £40 which means that with a substantial discount of 75% on match-day prices, season ticket holders are paying less than £1.75 per game. The U's feel that this represents one of the cheapest leisure opportunities available to children in this area.

Andrew PincherClub Secretary Andy Pincher is especially pleased the club has managed to avoid increasing the childrens' prices and commented, "We continue our quest to attract more families to the Abbey Stadium and these young fans are important to the future of Cambridge United. Several people have gone out of their way to let United know how much they appreciated the family atmosphere at the Preston and Wycombe games."

Andy added, "Several of these callers have mentioned that, whilst they may also have allegiance to other, bigger clubs, distance and ticket prices preclude them from attending their games."

In the wake of the Season of Promise, in which the club co-operated with the Nationwide initiative which attracted more than 2,000 newcomers to the Abbey Stadium, the club is hoping some of these casual supporters will become regulars and buy season tickets at substantial savings.

Graham Eales, CUFC PR Manager, claims the club is hoping to boost its season ticket sales from last season's 1,775 to 2,000 in this millennium year and added, "With the interest aroused by the Season of Promise, our continued Second Division status and the initial stages of approval for the redevelopment of the Abbey Stadium, exciting times are ahead for Cambridge United and we are hoping to attract more and more fans to our games."

Next year the club celebrates 50 years as Cambridge United so as an extra incentive every 50th purchaser of a season ticket will be a special "50 Years" guest of the club at some stage in this commemorative season.
