Monday 8th May 2000 : Contracts update as skipper echoes wages warning |
|
As Roy McFarland confirmed that he hopes to agree new terms with Neil Mustoe and Scott Eustace, his recent warning about the wages offered by Cambridge United were echoed by club captain Paul Wanless.
Eustace has not travelled with the squad this week on their holiday to Magaluf but McFarland told the CEN he would try to speak to Mustoe as the midfielder was in the party: "I'll probably be able to get a word or two with Muzzy while we're out there, but I shouldn't think there'll be any real developments until next week. "I'll be doing all I can to get both players to stay with the club. And during the summer we'll be working hard to strengthen the squad." McFarland has already revealed that he is trying to sign a striker, but in an exclusive interview for U's Net Paul Wanless stressed several times that although the playing staff understand the constraints under which the club operates, their wages are the lowest of all the clubs in Division Two. Wanless echoed McFarland's recent statement that the club needs to address the issue to be able to compete for the signatures of new players and to retain the ones already at the club. The full interview will be available later this week. |
