Monday 27th March 2000 : Youth team weakened by first team calls

The youth team suffered their second successive heavy defeat in the Football League Youth Alliance southern section on Saturday. They lost 3-0 at leaders Brighton after losing 4-0 at Leyton Orient last weekend, but the side was weakened by injuries and first team call-ups.

Youth team boss Dale Brooks explained, "We were missing seven of our regular side with three on first-team duty, and four injured. You want to lose players to first team duty because that's what it's all about, but the injuries were a blow against a side who have yet to concede a goal.

"The pleasing thing was we got at them in the first 25 minutes and caused all sorts of problems, but we couldn't score, and they took charge after that."

The Under 19s' next game is on Saturday morning at the Simoco ground at 1pm when Torquay United are the visitors. Youth team results and fixtures are available in the "This Season" section of the site, along with the reserve and first team.
