| Sunday 26th March 2000 : Roy on Oxford match |
|
In today's Sunday Mirror Roy McFarland admitted that yesterday's performance against Oxford was one of the worst of the season. "We have played a lot better than that and lost matches this season," he commented. "But when you consider we had ten players on our injury list and I've had to patch the team up it's a great result to get us out of the bottom four." After the match McFarland was also quick to pay tribute to the Abbey Stadium groundstaff for their hard work in clearing standing water from the pitch and allowing the match to go ahead. Torrential rain and hail a couple of hours before kick-off left huge puddles on a previously hard pitch, and the referee revealed afterwards that the match had been in doubt up to five minutes before kick-off. |
