  Friday 17th March 2000 : Cassidy transfer-listed

Jamie Cassidy - photo by Andrea ThrussellJamie Cassidy has been made available for transfer a week before the transfer deadline. Roy McFarland was delighted to land the former Liverpool midfielder on a free transfer last summer in the face of interest from Tranmere Rovers, but after a promising pre-season the 22-year-old has disappointed and failed to break through into the first team.

Saying he "cannot see a future" for Cassidy at the Abbey, McFarland admitted to the Cambridge Evening News, "It hasn't worked out, and that's a shame for Jamie and the club.

"He came from Liverpool with a good reputation, and chose to join us instead of first division Tranmere, but he struggled to make his mark after injury, and hasn't shown his best in reserve matches or in training. I don't think he's managed to settle in this area which is an important factor."

A Lilleshall graduate and England youth international, Cassidy was very highly regarded at Anfield and he was a member of Liverpool's 1996 FA Youth Cup winning side that also included Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher. Unluckily, while those two progressed to represent England, Jamie suffered a knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for a year and a half and despite being a regular for Liverpool's reserve team the closest he got to the first team was a seat on the bench.
