Thursday 16th March 2000 : Injury news mixed as three return but Kyddie has op

Roy McFarland will have the best type of selection headache for Saturday's match against Wrexham, as three first team players are back in training.

Jason KavanaghSkipper Paul Wanless has recovered from a kick on the thigh and will be fit to retain his place at the heart of midfield, while full-backs Jason Kavanagh (pictured right) and Tom Cowan will both be available for selection after recovering from a hamstring injury and sprained ankle respectively.

Player coach David Preece, standing in for the unavailable Roy McFarland at this afternoon's media call, confirmed the good news to Will Jones as part of today's 'On The Spot' interview. The full text will be available on the site late tonight.

However he also confirmed that the unlucky Michael Kyd had another knee operation this week and is ruled out for at least four weeks. Physio Ken Steggles revealed last week in his update for U's Net that Kyddie damaged his knee in training last week and once the swelling had reduced a decision would be made about an operation. This latest set-back leaves a serious question mark over the young striker's future as his contract expires this summer.
