Green Light for Amber and Blacks CUFC gets Planning Go-Ahead In the wake of last night's 3-0 win over Bristol City, which saw Cambridge United climb out of the relegation zone, there was additional excitement at the Abbey Stadium today when Cambridge City Planning committee approved the Club's application to redevelop the Abbey Stadium. The decision was unanimous, and the football club and allotment neighbours were praised for overcoming previous obstacles through open dialogue and genuine partnership. Chairman Reg Smart said: "I've been waiting for this day for 15 years, I am especially pleased for every one involved in the Club and the City right now who have been so keen and supportive. I also believe this decision is a testimony to the vision and passion of former Chairman Geoffrey Proctor, known as 'Mr Cambridge United', who is sadly no longer with us". Present Director Richard Summerfield who has had a key involvement in the process was equally pleased. "This is clearly a major land-mark in the life of Cambridge United FC, a very important step indeed. There is no doubt we now face a major challenge in the future but with all the support which has been triggered off in recent months, from so many quarters, I am convinced we can and will succeed". The viewing gallery was full of fans, friends and supporters of CUFC who were delighted that at long last a positive decision has been made which in their view will benefit the whole of the Cambridge community.
