Tuesday 7th March 2000 : CUSA call for plans to be approved

The Cambridge United Supporters Association (CUSA) today urged the Cambridge City Council Planning Committee to demonstrate their support for Cambridge United FC by approving the Club's revised planning application to redevelop the Abbey Stadium at their meeting tomorrow.

CUSA Secretary Nigel PearceCUSA Secretary Nigel Pearce said, "United have done all that was required of them by the Council since a decision on their planning application was deferred back in January. They were asked to compromise on the amount of allotment land to be used. They have compromised. They were asked to talk to the allotment holders. They have talked and reached an outline agreement with them.

"All football fans in and around Cambridge now call on the Council to show once and for all that they are behind Cambridge United FC, and that they recognise the overwhelming benefits that a thriving and successful football club can bring to the area. The Council can do this by approving the revised redevelopment plans at their meeting on Wednesday, and by unequivocally supporting the subsequent application to the DoTER for a change of use in respect of the small amount of allotment land required."

You can contact the CUSA via Secretary Nigel Pearce (0171 865 5636 / 01279 725012) or Chairman Brian Attmore (01223 245168), or e-mail the CUSA at:thecusa@btinternet.com
