Wednesday 28th June 2000 : Shrimpers date behind closed doors

Another pre-season fixture has been added to the schedule - but this one will take place behind closed doors.

The game at the Abbey on July 20th will be the first of the pre-season campaign, two days before the first team travel to Nuneaton Borough and five days before a Cambridge United XI play at Letchworth. Opposition is supplied by third division Southend United, and the match has possibly been arranged to give both management teams an early chance to put some trialists through their paces under competitive conditions.

The fixture page now includes all the first team and reserve friendlies, but those games marked as "CUFC XI" may be contested by a U's team mainly comprising fringe players, youngsters and trialists.
