Wednesday 28th June 2000 : Transfer rumours

Southend defender Chris Perkins could be a target for Cambridge United, while former U Jamie Campbell has been linked with Oxford United.

It is rumoured that out-of-contract Southend defender Chris Perkins is potentially on his way to The Abbey. The 20-year-old central defender is said to be unhappy with the contract on offer by by Southend, but he wishes to stay in the surrounding area and apparently has had talks with David Preece.

Meanwhile former U's defender Jamie Campbell could be on his way to Division Two rivals Oxford United.

In a repeat of the current Scott Eustace situation, Campbell was offered a twelve month deal by Cambridge a year ago but opted to join Brighton & Hove Albion on a more lucrative two year contract. However he was told at the end of last season that he could leave on a free transfer if he got himself fixed up with another club.
