Tuesday 27th June 2000 : Eustace set to become an Imp

Scott Eustace is set to leave Cambridge United on a 'Bosman free transfer' to sign for Lincoln City.

Scott EustaceIn a communication received from his management company, the defender states that he would like to say "a big thank you to all the Fans, Directors, and everyone associated with Cambridge for their kindness and help" during his time with the Club.

Subject to a medical, Eustace will join Lincoln on a two year deal and he indicates that the length of the deal was a key factor in his decision to join the third division club, where he had a trial after leaving Mansfield Town.

While particularly thanking Roy McFarland and David Preece "for helping him further his career", the statement adds that "It is with great sadness that Scott is leaving Cambridge, as it has been the happiest and most settled period of his career.

"Unfortunately Cambridge were not in a position to offer Scott the terms he felt he deserved, particularly the offering of only a further year of his contract. Scott has always maintained that he would like to stay with Cambridge, but unfortunately this was not possible.

"Once again many thanks to everyone, particularly the Fans who have always been tremendous to Scott."

The 25-year-old defender joined Cambridge United on trial in December 1998 and helped the U's to promotion in 1998-99 and to stave off relegation last season, in the process making over 50 appearances and scoring one goal.
