Tuesday 27th June 2000 : Derby date switched

December's Cambridgeshire derby at the Abbey Stadium will be switched to Friday night.

Roy McFarlandThe match was scheduled to be played on Saturday 16th December, but Police concerns over hosting a local derby at the Abbey while Christmas shoppers are out in force means the match will be brought forward one day to take place on the evening of Friday 15th December.

The combination of a fiercely contested derby game with the added atmosphere of playing under floodlights should guarantee a bumper crowd for the U's, and Roy McFarland has never made any secret of the fact that he and his players love the atmosphere at the Abbey during evening games.

Cambridge United are currently awaiting confirmation from the clubs and Police that the home derbies against Colchester United and Luton Town can also be switched to the preceding Friday nights.
