Sunday 4th June 2000 : Posh misery piles up |
|
Less than a week after gaining promotion to Division Two by the back door of the play-offs Peterborough United fans saw their club made a laughing stock by Barry Fry's claims that he was sacked and his retraction the following day, and now comes news that former coach Paul Ashworth has confirmed that he is going ahead with his claim of unfair dismissal. Football 365 reports that Ashworth was replaced as first team coach by Wayne Turner between Christmas and New Year, after the club had a run of seven matches without a victory. He had signed a five year contract last summer and has been helping Cambridge United's youth programme since leaving the London Road Club. Ashworth, who was the U's Youth Development Officer before joining Posh, marries the daughter of United's PR Manager Graham Eales later this month. |
