| Wednesday 12th January 2000 : Youthful U's beat Luton reserves |
|
The majority of Cambridge United's youth team turned out for the reserves this afternoon (2pm) against Luton Town reserves and produced an impressive 3-1 victory. Most of the regular second string played against Barnet in last night's AWS tie so the youths got their chance to impress at a higher level, reinforced by the experience of Arjan Van Heusden, reserve team boss John Taylor, and trialist Robert Simpson. An attacking midfielder who started out with Tottenham, Simpson is a 23-year-old former England youth international who most recently played for Portsmouth and has been training with United for a few weeks. The goalscorers were Nathan Lamey, who scored twice from the penalty spot, and Alex Revell. Cambridge
