Sunday 9th January 2000 : FA Cup draw

This evening's FA Cup draw for the fifth round handed Cambridge United a home tie against Bolton Wanderers. Roy McFarland was joint manager with Colin Todd of the first division side for six months and the tie will bring Bolton back to the Abbey after visiting for a pre-season friendly which they won 1-0. Todd left Wanderers in December after several seasons spent see-sawing between Division One and the Premiership, and McFarland is certain to consult his former Derby County teammate about the Reebok Stadium oufit.

United will be disappointed to have again missed out in the plum names in the hat like Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton, but the Abbey is sure to be packed for the home tie, especially if it is played on a 'lucky' Friday evening. The fifth round ties are due to be played on the weekend of January 29/30 and confirmation of the date and ticket details will appear on this site as soon as they are available.

The full fifth round draw:

Gillingham or Bradford v Sheff Wed or Wolves
Everton v Preston
Liverpool or Blackburn v Newcastle
Coventry v Charlton
Cambridge v Bolton
Aston Villa v Leeds
Fulham v Tranmere
Chelsea or Notts Forest v Arsenal or Leicester
