In today's Cambridge Evening News he said, "Wannie came through a training session, but we'll have to see how he reacts today. It might be asking a lot of him by bringing him straight back in. He's had a really bad bout of this flu. It'll be good to have him back in the squad for the game, but I've got no qualms about playing the side who did well at Bristol."
He added, "4-4-2 has suited us and in a sense given us an extra body to defend," which seems to indicate no major changes ahead of the FA Cup fourth round tie against a side who are also struggling. Wrexham's third round giant-killing of Premiership side Middlesbrough is the high point in their current run of sixteen games without a win and three without a goal, and the manager wants to maintain that trend. "We drew at Wrexham in the League not so long ago, and deserved to win," he told the CEN. "They won't relish playing us, and they won't have that factor of psyching themselves up to play a Premiership side. They must have been disappointed to draw us instead of another big club, and we have to make sure they are still feeling like that at the end of the match." He added that tomorrow's Cup tie could even help the rest of the league campaign by removing the week to week pressure of a relegation battle. United go in search of their first away win of the season - the only club in the Nationwide League without one - and McFarland commented: "It's a one-off, something different. It's important to the club, but it gives the players a chance to go out and play with a bit more freedom. It can relieve the tension." Player coach David Preece was interviewed for Sky Sports Online and said, "We played well in the league games over Christmas and should have got more than the one point out of nine that we won. "We got a good draw at the Racecourse in November. It is a shame we are not at home, but we know what to expect. We will try to get into the hat, and if we are in the draw we will be happy. We feel we can win against anybody at home, despite our inconsistency." Wrexham have injury worries over defender Steve Roberts, winger Robin Gibson and midfielder Gareth Owen, who are all described as "very doubtful", according to their local press. |
