| Friday 7th January 2000 : Joint deal for strikers? |
|
A rumour emerged on the Moosenet mailing list today that Charlton Athletic could be poised to sign Martin Butler and Trevor Benjamin.
21-year-old Lisbie returned from injury to score one and set up two goals in Charlton reserves' 5-1 win over Leicester this week. The former England youth international can play up front or wide right and had a loan spell with Gillingham last season, scoring four goals in seven appearances before ruptured medial knee ligaments curtailed his campaign. He also made two appearances on loan for Reading last November and December. The Moosenetter who relayed the rumour accurately comments that Charlton's forward line of Clive Mendonca, Andy Hunt and Martin Pringle are in the 29-31 age range, and adds that the Addicks are looking for a younger strikeforce in preparation for their anticipated return to the Premiership. They are currently second in the Division One table and tried to sign Sheffield United top scorer Martin Smith this week, but he rejected a move to London. Meanwhile former U's striker Mark McCammon joined Swindon on loan from Charlton last week. |
