| Sunday 20th February 2000 : Seasiders' boss fires back |
|
Blackpool manager Steve McMahon fired back at Roy McFarland after his side won at the Abbey yesterday, completing the double over the U's. In November at Bloomfield Road, United capitulated with a sorry showing in a 2-1 defeat and McFarland called his players in for extra training the next day, a Sunday. Explaining his reasons he commented, "Blackpool were awful, the worst team we've played in two years, and we've lost 2-1 to them. We had great support but let them all down. That's all I want to say." New Blackpool boss McMahon responded after yesterday's win: "Cambridge called us the worst team they had met when we beat them at our place in November, but Mr McFarland won't be saying that now. We played with great spirit, could have had more goals and were never really in any trouble. What we have to do now is reproduce it at home." |
