| Friday 11th February 2000 : Roy "thinking of scrapping the reserves" |
|
Roy McFarland revealed yesterday that he is considering scrapping the reserve team in favour of a more youthful set-up.
"I suppose the frustration will be that the younger players don't have as many games to play, but the important thing is to develop our youth side. We have an U19 team, schoolboys, but maybe we need to help this development and scrap the reserves." He stressed that this idea is just one of several under discussion by him and his coaching staff as they review the development of the club and aim for improvements. Other matters under discussion included the games against Wigan, Stoke and Notts County, the signing of Zema Abbey and a rejected bid for another striker this week. McFarland also obligingly answered a record 17 questions from supporters this week to help clear the backlog and the subjects ranged from specific players to the team and tactics, the club's finances, and the manager himself.
